Vizag,10th September, 2013: Gangavaram Port Limited today distributed training certificates and sewing machines to 50 women from nearby villages who have successfully completed 6 weeks of sewing training program. The sewing machines and certificates was handed over by Sri.Ch.Venkata Ramayya, M.L.A Gajuwaka Assembly Constituency, in presence of Mr. Brahmaiah Gadde, Director (Operations) Mr. Janardhana Rao Sr. Vice President, and Mr. K. Raja Ratnam Naidu, Senior Vice-President (R R & Security) Gangavaram Port Limited at a function held at the port premises. The training program which was designed to empower the women and provide them sustainable livelihood opportunity received fantastic response from the people.
The first batch of the program with 50 women had to undergo 6 weeks of training which covered theoretical & practical knowledge about stitching and innovative clothing designs. The main objective of the Sewing training is to provide women an opportunity to be self-employed and supplement the family income. Speaking on the occasion Mr. K. Raja Ratnam Naidu, Senior Vice-President (R R & Security) Gangavaram Port Limited said,
We are extremely pleased at the response for the program. The first batch has been handed over the certificates along with the sewing machines today. With this program GPL is confident that the women in our surrounding area will be able to self empower themselves by getting employment or running a small home business. We want to uplift and give equal status to the women through activities like sewing and stitching programs.
