Karthi's 'Japan', which will head to theatres on November 10, is directed by Raju Murugan. Dream Warrior Pictures has bankrolled this movie. Co-starring our own Sunil, among others, 'Japan' is about a notorious master thief who steals jewels worth Rs 200 Cr. He is then sought to be rounded up by the police, making his situation tight.

I come from a journalism background. It was Charlie Chaplin who inspired me to get into movies. I have worked as a journalist, writer, and social worker. A silent film starring Chaplin evoked so many thoughts and emotions. I don’t make films for awards. I seek the love of the audience.
My previous films didn't feature a star hero. Karthi has been a good friend. Keeping his image in mind, I conceived an entertaining story. 'Japan' conveys a message. A star hero like Karthi can deliver a weighty message through cinema.
'Japan' is a character-driven film. I am glad that producers SR Prabhu and SR Prakash have spent a high budget with the aim of lending this film the richness it deserves.
Karthi has always resisted archetypal characters. He shared some invaluable ideas during the making of 'Japan'. He is an inquisitive actor whose questions would trigger new ideas in me.
'Japan' has cinematography by S Ravi Varman, whom I call a legend. He is one of the leading cameramen in India. It helped that he and Karthi share a similar wavelength. Besides, talented actors such as KS Ravikumar, Anu Emmanuel, and Sunil feature in the film. The ensemble cast has taken the script to the next level.
The music by GV Prakash Kumar is fab. Editor Philomin Raj, art director Banglan and the rest of the technical team did great. The film was shot in places like Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu, Kashmir, Kerala, Chennai, and Hyderabad. I believe that if we make films that we like first, the audience will definitely appreciate them. All my films are made with passion.
