Being in her shoes Celebrating Women's creativity

'Being in Her shoes - Celebrating Women's creativity', showcases female creative minds who have come together to celebrate International Women's Day. Centered around International Women's Day which takes place at Kalakriti every year in the month of March, with an objective of promoting and encouraging Women Artists, this exhibition is an eclectic blend of creativity produced by women artists living and working in India. Many of the works in the exhibition toy with the perception of femininity. The participating artists are Afza Tamkanat, Faiza Hasan, Jalaja P S, Prajakta Palav Aher, Priyanka Aelay and Vinita Dasgupta.

Jalaja's concern is human history and perception of people across the world. She uses narrative method to highlight the core problems of the society. Through her work titled Tug of War, the artist tries to reflect the possibilities of a new vision of hope for a better tomorrow. While, artist Prajakta Palav wants to preserve the precious corners of her surroundings through her paintings. Those corners are like, the corners of mind and the corners of city. She finds lots of memories and layers of meanings in them.

Vinita Dasgupta's story teller series is inspired by the Gotipua dancers of Raghurajpur who are known as God's little dancers. The artist picks up different variety of mediums as a part of her work, and those parts have their own memory. The beautiful part is when all the mediums and the subject come together, they create a new story altogether.

Priyanka's paintings are poetic in nature which talks about the phenomena of time and space. Meanwhile, Faiza Hasan takes up contemporary issues on to her works especially women related. Her use of mediums, like watercolour plus embroidery adds more meaning to her subjects. Her works state subtle truths about women in contemporary India. Artist Afza Tamkanat's works are based on her personal space. The imageries in her paintings celebrate the freedom of women. According to the artist, in this modern and developed society we are losing the space in the name of security.
