Is there a need for such a body? Yes, by all means. Any industry to mature into a full fledged industry, we need a Professional Body, Skill Development and Education to help build a strong resource base and Research. It will give an identity and also bond the fraternity as one family and at the same time ensure competitiveness on a global platform. This should have been initiated long ago. But, nevertheless, it is taking a final shape now, thanks to the efforts of every one. The body will serve for professional growth along with the changing times, trends and bring in technological advantages and knowledge will be shared and professionalism ensured. Hyderabad being the major MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions) Destination and boasting of the infrastructure which not many cities in the country can boast of, and the presence of major corporate players in the city, our state of Telangana is today poised for major growth and it definitely needs a professional body to create multiple platforms for the trajectory growth. TCEI, is a win -win for both the industry and their customers. The body can be interface between the industry and the government as well and maximize the growth potential. Nationally, it is estimated that the Event Industry has grown from Rs.800 crores in 2008 to Rs.5000 crores in 2014 in the organized sector i.e., 600% increase in 5 years. The size of this industry in the state of Telangana is estimated at about Rs.300 crores annually, majority of it coming from Hyderabad. It is also estimated that the unorganized sector comprises of 60% of the industry size. Events and brand activations market is growing rapidly with every established company both national and multinational brands increasing budgets to explore more and more semi-urban and rural markets. Often you find agencies from outside the state operating in this sector. Organized companies in this BTL sphere can get rich dividends. The initial response to this initiative has been overwhelming. A steering committee has been formed to drive this pioneering initiative. It is now planning to hold its first conclave in a couple of weeks at Hyderabad.
