Soumya is one of the lead actresses in Suresh Productions’ comedy entertainer ‘Mugguru’ directed by V M Aditya. The film’s music was recently released and there seems to have a good response for it. The movie is expected to release in early September. So we caught up with Soumya to learn more about the film and a general chit chat. Here are some excerpts:

Hello Soumya, tell us a bit about you and how and when you came into this film industry.
I am a psychology and English literature graduate and was running my own English monthly magazine evoke.in.  I also won three international awards in poetry and recently launched my English theater group called applause and this was launched by Shobhaa Devand and Prince Manvendra Singh Gohil.

So how was your shooting experience with the team of ‘Mugguru’?

Shooting for ‘Mugguru’ was fantastic, loved every minute of it.

Any unforgettable incident that happened during the shoot.

Yes, on the second last day of the shoot, we were shooting for the song 'Gilli Gilli' on Langkawi islands and while on the Banana boat we toppled into the sea and I was bitten by a sea urchin and had a brush with a jellyfish....

What is ‘Mugguru’ about?

Mugguru is a fun filled laugh riot about 3 guys and their happenings in life.

How was it working with VN Aditya?

It's a dream come true. I bunked school and watched 'Manasantha Nuvve' 12 times....it was an addiction so obviously working with V N Aditya sir was a dream which came true.

Tell us about your costars.

Navdeep, Rahul, Avasarala, Reema Sen, Shraddha Das and Sanjana are all my costars in this film. I’m paired opposite Avasarala. Great Team!

What role did you play in the film?

I play Mohini, the youngest of three sisters, the eldest being Shraddha and Sanjana being the middle one. Mine is a character that is crazy about antique auctions n blows off her father's money in buying antiques.

Your opinion on ‘Mugguru’ music and which song did you like the most?

Very peppy music! Koti garu was wonderful. My favorite is 'Gilli Gilli'. I also like our title track in which the entire cast and crew's names are mentioned.  It's an ode to the efforts.

What strengths/skills do you have and what is your greatest weakness?

My strength is that I am a Telugu girl who can speak, read and write Telugu. Weakness for the color pink and I just love chocolate mousse.

What are your hobbies?

I love reading, writing and listening to music.

Do you dance?

Yes I do, since I learnt Kuchipudi and Bhartanatyam.

You have worked in few Tamil films initially and later entered the Telugu film industry right? How did this happen?

The shift from Tamil to Telugu came at the right time through Dasari garu's 'Young India'.

You have worked with Tamil and Telugu directors. Whith whom are you more comfortable to work with?

The language of expression and acting is the same anywhere. However these days we all converse mainly in English, so the preference of Telugu or Tamil doesn't arise.

Do you have anyone as your role model?

My aunt Gautami is and always will be my role model.

Well, we would like to know about your family background.

My dad is a marine engineer and my mom a housewife. I’ve a younger brother.

If not acting which field would you choose?

I wanted to enter into civil services.

Which film did you watch recently?

'Zindagi Naa Milegi Dobaaraa'....fantastic!

What work can we look forward to next from you?

'Ramadandu' with Krishnudu, directed by Satish Vegesna.
