Director Dasarath, who gave Nagarjuna a much needed break with ‘Santhosham’ a decade ago, has teamed up with him once again to show him as ‘Greeku Veerudu’. Audience will only find positive characters, family relationships, love, affection and feel good music in his films. So ‘Greeku Veerudu’ is no exception. So let’s learn more about ‘Greeku Veerudu’ (releasing May 3rd) from him. Here are few excerpts from his media interview.
Thanking his entire team Dasarath started off the interview saying, “I was able to travel so far only with the support given by mytechnicians. The film has good scope for entertainment. My special thanks to Gopi Mohan and Kona Venkat. The first copy is ready. Our entire team watched the film. We are all very happy at the out come of the movie. Everyone is going to see the film in few more hours. The craze for it has increased due to the positive response for the music.”
Explaining about the title he said, “There is no connection between the title and the story. We did this film keeping Nagarjuna’s image in mind, hence we selected ‘Greeku Veerudu’ as the title. We have chosen the title ‘Love Story’ for the Tamil version despite knowing there is double tax for English titles in Tamil industry. That’s because we have to anyway pay double tax for a dubbing film. So we left it at that.”
About Nagarjuna he said, “When I met Nagarjuna to narrate the story of ‘Santhosham’, he made me a director. He is still the same even today, there is no change in him. He takes care of people on the sets more than himself. It’s a pleasure to work with him always. He is the man of such high range quality. He played an NRI who’s an Event Manager in USA. When I first narrated 15 minutes script, he got impressed and asked me to proceed further. I met him again after 15 days and narrated 60 minutes story. In general, the audience expects wholesome entertainment from Nagarjuna. So ‘Greeku Veerudu’ has all ingredients expected by them and I’m sure it’ll definitely be on par with their expectations.”
When asked about Nayantara he showered compliments on her saying, “One can do even 100 films with an artist like Nayantara. She is very nice human-being and a balanced artist. She moulds herself including her body language according to the character she plays. She is simply a disciplined artist and very punctual. She will be present on the set 5 minutes before the scheduled time with make-up. She was the one who responded first when our assistant director was in some trouble.”
About highlights he mentioned, “Highlights of this film are good story, Nag’s look, Vishwanath garu’s performance, Nayantara, production values and of course Thaman’s music. Vishwanath garu is a great actor. The director need not give him the dialogues. If he starts telling dialogues, it continues flawlessly. We took lot of care while doing this film because we aimed at audience of all age groups. We also balanced comedy and the story.”
When questioned why his films don’t have villains, he questioned back, “We do not have villains in our families right? But high tempered persons are commonly seen in families. So do we keep them away from us?
About his view on different love stories he said, “‘Greeku Veerudu’ is a matured love story, not an infatuation. It’s not a tender love story. Dealing with teenage love stories is difficult. We have to make hero chase the heroine whole day just to get an eye-sight. It’s very difficult to do all that.”
Giving his opinion on joint and individual families he said, “I like to live personally. It doesn’t mean those living personally have the mind of separation from their families and it doesn’t mean that those living in joint families are always united.
When one of the journalists asked how he managed to work with a complete commercial mass producer he replied, “Producer Sivaprasad Reddy did a lot of sensitive films in his career. Hence he quickly got connected to this film.”
About ‘Greeku Veerudu’ releasing at the time of 100 years celebration of Indian Cinema, he commented, “It was a coincidence and not intentional. Incidentally it happened so that our film is getting released on the day of 100 years completion of Indian Cinema. We have never planned anything like that. It just happened and I came to know only couple of days ago. I’m very happy about it.”
He concluded his interview saying, “I will not do mass films but I will do action films.”
