Birthday special interview of Diamond Rathnababu
Diamond Rathnababu has made a resolve. The writer-turned-director wants to make films that India can be proud of. There was a time when he was very good at studies and completed Intermediate in first-class despite not keeping interested in studies. He went on to graduate and pass exceedingly well in post-graduation and PhD in the movie industry! He has always called his pen a 'diamond'. And his resolve is steely! Having done odd jobs before making a mark in the film industry, he knows what it takes to be on the top of the curve.
He got introduced as a dialogue-writer with Ram Pothineni's debut movie 'Devadasu', which was directed by YVS Chowdhary. Subsequent films like 'Seema Shastri' made him more popular in the industry. He secured a hat-trick with films like 'Eedo Rakam Aado Rakam', 'Pilla Nuvvu Leni Jeevitham' and 'Pandavulu Pandavulu Thummeda'. He turned a director with 'Burra Katha' after learning the tricks of the art from SV Krishna Reddy and Raghava Lawrence. Contrary to the perception, 'Burra Katha' made a profit of more than Rs 1 Cr because it was made on a controlled budget.
Working on Mohan Babu's 'Gayatri' was important for Diamond Rathnababu. Thanks to the blessings of Gayatri Mata, Mohan Babu became his godfather in the industry, the writer-director often says. Mohan Babu once told him that it's Diamond Rathnababu whom he loves the most after Sathyanand and Paruchuri Brothers. "This particular praise is greater to me than even the Oscar," Rathnababu says.
'Son Of India' is the upcoming movie of Diamond as director. Mohan Babu will be seen in a strong role in the movie. "I will always be indebted to Mohan Babu garu for the opportunity. This is going to be a film the whole country can be proud of. Produced on a prestigious scale by Vishnu Manchu, the film is going to have screenplay by Mohan Babu garu himself. Some of the best technicians of the country will be working on the movie. More details will be revealed on October 2, marking Gandhi Jayanthi," the writer-director says.
All that Rathnababu wants to be called is 'Challenging Director'.
