'Orey Bujjiga', starring Raj Tarun, Malavika Nair and Hebah Patel, is currently streaming on Aha. Director Vijay Kumar Konda of 'Gunde Jaari Gallanthayyinde', in this interview, speaks about the response to the rom-com, working experience with Raj Tarun and Anup Rubens, his upcoming movies and more.
Audiences' reaction:
We are more than happy with all the responses from Aha and the viewers. Be it my friends or family, everyone has thoroughly enjoyed the film. The comedy has clicked big-time with everyone. We had set out to make a full-length entertainer and that's what we have made. The film was supposed to arrive at the cinemas on March 25. After the lockdown was imposed, our film couldn't be released. It pained me a bit. But I am happy that the film is finally out on OTT.
Inspiration behind hero's character:
There was no inspiration behind Bujjigadu. It was clear that the film would be made as a full-length entertainer sans logic. At the same time, Bujji has to be a boy next door. After I wrote the story, I could think of only Raj Tarun for the character. Him doing the movie has elevated the character a great deal.
Selecting Malavika Nair:
Her character is as important as the hero's character. She shows a lot of variations throughout. Only a performer could have pulled off the role. That's why I chose Malavika after my team suggested her name.
On producer KK Radhamohan:
Soon after okaying the script, he gave me complete freedom. That's why the output is of such high quality. We did only what was necessary. After 'Oka Laila Kosam', there was much gap in my career because a project I had been working on had to be shelved before it went on the floors. I worked on 'Orey Bujjiga' with a vengeance.
Next film with Raj Tarun:
We have already started its shooting. We are following all coronavirus-related guidelines. We are doing a new genre this time. The genre is new for both of us. This one is a romantic suspense drama.
On repeating Anup Rubens:
Yes, he has composed music for all my three films. My bonding with him is strong. He always meets my expectations. That's why I haven't had to change him. Our journey continues into my fourth film.
On Nikhil Kumaraswamy's Telugu-Kannada film:
I was very proud on receiving a call from Karnataka about Nikhil Kumaraswamy (son of former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy) wanting to work with me. I narrated a story to him. He liked it. About half of the film has been completed. This is a prestigious project for me. It will be released in both Telugu and Kannada.
