SS Thaman awaits the release of 'Vakeel Saab' on April 9. In this interview, he talks about working on the movie, teaming up with Pawan Kalyan, his upcoming movies such as 'Sarkaru Vaaru Paata' and more.
It has been phenomenal since 'Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo' last year. Such a thing happens very rarely for someone who has been in the industry for more than a year. Because of the lockdown, the success couldn't be enjoyed by us fully. All credit goes to Trivikram garu and Bunny garu for the movie. They made it happen for me.
The film industry got drowned in losses. Not many are talking about financial losses. It was brave on the part of producer BVSN Prasad garu to release 'Solo Brathuke So Better' in theatres in December. 'Krack' got more name musically.
'Vakeel Saab' was supposed to be completed within a short time. Because of the lockdown, our celebrations in terms of working on the movie got extended. I was supposed to do 'Gabbar Singh'. Due to some delay, I missed out on the film.
I had been waiting for an opportunity to work on Pawan Kalyan garu's movie for years. I saw him during the making of 'Kushi' and 'Gudumba Shankar'. I recorded a couple of songs a few of years ago for Jana Sena Party. My bonding with him went up during the phase.
'Vakeel Saab' is a dream-come-true. This is not a typical commercial film. I have to thank Trivikram sir, who asked me to do this film. I was doing 'AVPL' at that time. He advised Dil Raju garu to rope me in. My journey with director Venu Sriram has been brilliant.
Since this is a remake, the director's work will be watched out for in terms of changes. I used to meet him every day. 'Maguva Maguva' arose from our conversations.
The story didn't have scope for those many songs. But since it has got a number of commercial elements, we infused songs. I have almost completed BGM.
Just remove the colour 'Pink' from the remake. Amitabh Bachchan and Ajith have done it in Hindi and Telugu. But Pawan Kalyan garu is still different.
There is a surprise in the second half of 'Vakeel Saab'. But I won't reveal it.
Pawan garu hasn't sung a song in this film. But he will surely be singing in the 'Ayyappanum Koshiyum' remake. The songs of 'Vakeel Saab' are story-based. They don't look forced. Without affecting the image of the lawyer's character, the director took care of song situations.
I don't believe in the number game. I don't accept it if I am described as the No. 1. A film becomes a hit only if all 24 crafts do well. I don't take entire credit for a movie's success even if it becomes a musical hit. If the songs are good, a movie's buzz goes up.
'Maguva Maguva' was mooted to be the title of the film at one point. But we went with a powerful-sounding title to satisfy the fans. The song has made girls and women emotional. The 'Peniviti' song from 'Aravindha Samitha' had made my mother emotional.
Music updates on 'Sarkaru Vaari Paata' will be revealed from the month of August. Besides BB3, I will also be composing music for the Telugu remake of 'Lucifer'. A film with Trivikram garu will follow.
