The much-awaited Telugu remake of Tamil's super hit 'Asuran' titled 'Narappa' is readying for its release on Amazon Prime Video on the 20th of July. Starring Victory Venkatesh and Priyamani as the lead actors, the movie Narappa has gained much attention already. Here is an exclusive interview with Suresh Babu regarding the movie's release.
Q. Why release on OTT? Why not at theaters?
A. Narappa is jointly produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu and me. One of Kalaipuli S Thanu's recent movies which were released at the theaters had caused him a loss in revenue, which makes us worry about the theatrical release of Narappa. We were thinking of a possible wave after the release also. I felt that it is not fair to expect the audience to come to the theaters when we are not ready to send our family members to the theaters yet.
Q.Why on Amazon Prime Video when there are Telugu OTT channels?
A. A producer is the one who needs to know how his movie would earn revenue. I opted for Amazon Prime Video as I felt there is much scope for Narappa to reach the maximum audiences. For the amount of hard work the artists have put in, this OTT platform serves well. The rise of OTT platforms comes as a blessing to everyone in the industry. There is a space for more opportunities.
Q. What about movie exhibitors and theater owners?
A. I would say, the only sector of the movie industry that is utterly hit due to the pandemic is the exhibitor's section. I would want to stress this point that governments must come forward to help the exhibitors.
Producer Suresh Babu seems to be optimistic about the release of Narappa on Amazon Prime Video. He also conveyed important things related to the problems faced by the movie industry people. He also told that situations aren't that easy for a theatrical release of any movie.
