Lyricist Krishna Kanth has penned all the five songs in 'Radhe Shyam', the Prabhas-starrer. In this interview, he talks about 'Ee Raathale', the first song that was released recently. He also says that four more songs will be out and what we can expect from them.
I started my career as a media person. 'Andala Rakshasi' was my first movie. After my debut, I didn't have any movies for two years. 'Krishna Gaadi Veera Prema Gadha' gave me a break into movies again. I have written more than 450 movies so far. It has not been an easy, smooth journey. I have had my struggles.
The first song from 'Radhe Shyam' has become a massive hit. I have known director Radha Krishna Kumar for many years. His song situations are meaningful. Even a song has a story in his movies. Since so much needs to be conveyed, we chose the device of a song.
The story takes place in the 1970s in Europe. I made it a point not to use English-language words despite the backdrop. It's not a regular love song about the birth of feelings of love. It's also not a sad song. It's entirely different and that's why you can't predict what the song is about despite listening to the lyrics carefully and repeatedly. Such is the nature of the story of 'Radhe Shyam'.
Netizens are analyzing the objects and text seen in the lyrical video. The film, needless to say, is going to have different visuals. I have seen people translating the lyrics of 'Ee Raathale' into foreign languages. Prabhas garu is not just a pan-India star but a global star, in my opinion.
Composer Justin Prabhakaran and I sat down for the song and completed it without feeling pressured. Since Justin doesn't know Telugu, the director, too, sat down with us to explain the song situation in detail.
'Radhe Shyam' has been imagined in different ways by the audience. For some, it's a time-travel story. For others, it is a 'punarjanma' story. They have to wait for the film to come out to know the truth. I have written all the songs in the movie.
Many have said that the lyrics of the 'Radhe Shyam' song are not easy to understand. I don't agree. Most listeners are appreciating the lines. I was there with the music director as he finalized the tunes in Hyderabad. After the pandemic set in, he went to Chennai and we used to communicate through technical means.
I am waiting for Prabhas garu's call regarding the song. He is currently too busy with film shoots.
Four more songs are yet to be released. The songs will not be peppy. At the same time, they will not be slow. They will be in keeping with the period backdrop of 'Radhe Shyam'.
I like how the situations were shaped in 'Jersey'. I wrote a variety of songs. 'Shyam Singha Roy', 'Major', 'HIT-2', Nagarjuna garu's 'The Ghost' are among my upcoming movies.
