Debutant Ashish awaits the release of 'Rowdy Boys' on January 14. In this interview, he talks about his acting debut, working with director Harsha Konuganti, Devi Sri Prasad and others.
I have always entertained my family and friends with my dances at events. Allu Arjun is my favourite actor. I have always wanted to work hard like him. I am an introvert and I had my doubts initially. I did some acting courses and took a plunge into movies. I have done theatres, joined an acting school in Mumbai, worked under acting gurus like Bikshu garu and Satyanand garu. I then worked as an AD for 'Kerintha'.
The concept of Engineering faction vs Medical faction in the college campus story piqued my interest. That's what made me accept 'Rowdy Boys'. We did workshops and director Harsha Konuganti used to keep us engaged. I didn't take any reference in particular.
Every day was challenging while shooting for 'Rowdy Boys'. Romantic songs were the most challenging. I used to go well-prepared to the set. I am not spontaneous. I have to do thorough homework. The best experience was doing 'Date Night', for which I didn't do any rehearsal. Jani Master gave the dance moves on the spot.
I personally like rom-coms and college campus stories. I have to see how the audience are going to see me after this movie. Director Harsha belongs to my generation and therefore, it was easy to gel with him. We used to discuss a lot.
Dance-heavy songs are integral to the story. I enjoy dancing. I am glad that people are saying that I have shown ease. It's the biggest compliment. I am motivated to better myself.
Devi Sri Prasad anna composing music for my movie is an honour. I am very happy that he saw the project as his own project. Cinematographer Madhi garu is a seasoned cameraman. He also gives suggestions and knows how an actor has to do it. It was a knowledgeable experience. He shared valuable insights.
