Producer Ravindra Benerjee Muppaneni, who has previously produced 'Colour Photo', is waiting for 'Bedurulanka 2012'. Starring Kartikeya Gummakonda in the lead, the film is directed by newcomer Clax.
The film will be released in theatres on August 25. "How will humans behave if they were told the world will come to an end tomorrow? The emotions stemming from this premise and the collision of various characters in the climax is the crux of the film," says the producer in this interview. The myth of 'Yugantham' has been mined to generate laughs. "Human emotions are the undercurrent of the story. Humour and drama are the mainstays of our film," the producer adds.
I was born and brought up in Hyderabad. I worked in the IT sector for about 6 years. I entered the film industry purely out of passion. I am a calm-going person. I have got stage fear. That's why I don't talk much.
We shot the movie in Yanam and surrounding villages. 'Beduru' in the title denotes the sense of fear among its people. Any story needs the X factor. The story takes place in a fictional place over a period of 21 days in the year 2012. The premise of the end of the world has been milked to generate fun. The focus is not 100% on the Yugantham concept. There is something else in the story. You have to offer a stand-out feature for the audience to want to watch your movie. And a serious concept has to be told in an entertaining fashion.
Kartikeya's character, Neha Sshetty's pairing and other factors will be loved by the audience. We were skeptical about whether Neha would suit the traditional look. But she has nailed it. Ajay Ghosh, Jabardasth Ram Prasad, Srikanth Iyengar and others have got important characters.
This project happened when 'Colour Photo' was still in the making. The pandemic delayed things but, in the background, work was going on even though the shoot was not commenced. Clax may be a new director but I didn't want to compromise on the budget. Technicians like Mani Sharma garu were chosen to ensure that the idea gets translated properly onto the celluloid. They were chosen because I had full faith in the potential of the story.
Since the story takes place in a village, we wanted to shoot in authentic locations. It's an Island where the story is set in. Rains and other weather events did pose unexpected challenges. But we had to go for it. The nature of the story is like that. It had to be shot outdoors. And about 20% of the story takes place at night.
It is not usual that several characters have their unique arcs in a film. 'Bedurulanka 2012' is an exception. The conversations, the comedy, and the drama are rooted in nativity. The cultural features of the Godavari backdrop have been properly shown.
Ram Charan garu learned about the storyline of the film before releasing the trailer. He liked the story and also appreciated the pairing of the Kartikeya-Neha duo.
I have locked three more films. Two of them are completely content-driven. I will announce more details after the release of 'Bedurulanka'. I personally love dramas.
