'Bhaje Vaayu Vegam' has me in a surprising role: Iswarya Menon

Iswarya Menon awaits the release of 'Bhaje Vaayu Vegam' on May 31. Saying that she has a suspenseful role in the late Summer release, the actress gives us a peek into her character in the emotional action thriller. 'BVV' stars Kartikeya Gummakonda in the lead. In this interview, Iswarya says that she wants the audience's love. "That's my only expectation. Nothing else gives me greater happiness," she adds.

I am an Engineer by academic qualification. I started doing acting assignments at the age of 17. I come from a middle-class background. My brother is a doctor. I come from a small-town background. When I used to dance as a child on stage, it used to boost my confidence levels. After my Engineering, my focus on acting only intensified. It has been an amazing journey as a self-taught actor. That makes me so grounded.

'Bhaje Vaayu Vegam' is an edge-of-the-seat, story-driven thriller. I play a traditional girl who comes from a humble background. UV Creations is a legendary production house. Producers Vamsi and Pramod are known to make spectacular content. Being associated with them has wowed those in my life. They are highly regarded producers, who treat everyone with kindness. Director Prashanth Reddy is super-talented. Wanting to work with Kartikeya was a no-brainer. He plays Venkat. My name is Indhu, a beautician. She is so much in love with Venkat that she would be ready to take a bullet for him. So much rides on Venkat and the story unfolds from his character's perspective.

I don't have action scenes but you are going to see a new avatar of mine. Sarees are my second skin. I am comfortable with traditional attire. As such, doing 'BVV' was relatively an easy thing for me.

I had seen 'RX 100' starring Kartikeya. I was looking forward to working with him. He is a very good dancer and a phenomenal actor. He plays cricket in 'BVV' but I can't reveal more about his character!

Radhan's music is awesome. The song 'Set Ayyindhe' is among my favourites. Director Prashanth is someone who launched me in Tollywood, technically speaking, given I was onboarded for 'BVV' before 'SPY' was released. He has so much clarity. He is quite crystal clear and experienced for a debutant. He is phenomenal. He is very strict where required.

Before this film, I had a lot of offers from Telugu. I have a movie coming up in Malayalam with Mamootty sir. I am doing a love story in Tamil. Telugu is a lovely language and I want to do more and more work here. But I didn't latch on to any and every offer that came my way before and after 'SPY' in Telugu. I waited for the right opportunity to come my way. 'BVV' is one such offer. I want all my films to be super-hits. Ultimately, the audience's love and blessings are mandatory. I am yet to watch 'BVV'. The ball is in God's court now!

I really want to do performance-oriented roles. I have always been over-expressive and animated, being a Bharatnatyam-trained dancer. At the same time, I want to be a commercial heroine, given dancing is my suite. Whatever I have done even in Tamil, I have got little scope to showcase my dancing skills. As a southern Indian, I feel I am also good at dances with massy vibes.

I am quite active on Instagram; I love keeping my followers updated about my movies. I am in talks for three Telugu films. They will be made official by the makers soon.

'Highway' (Hindi) is one of my all-time favourite movies. If some director remakes it, I want to reprise Alia Bhatt. She is a phenomenal actor.
