Chiranjeevi was present at an event related to the legendary actress Savitri on Wednesday when he recalled an anecdote involving her. It was in the late 1970s that Chiru got to act with Savitri in a scene or two in the film 'Punadhirallu'.
"Until a day before the shoot, I was not informed that I would be shooting for a scene with 'Mahanati' Savitri garu. I was speechless upon being informed. During my first-ever interaction with her, I was too intimidated in her presence to even utter my name when she asked for my name. Incidentally, I had decided to change my name to Chiranjeevi only the previous day," Chiru began saying.
He added, "I used to be ever-so-ready to show off my dancing skills at the first opportunity. I had a tape recorder ready with me. I played a couple of English songs and started dancing energetically. I had a slip because the location was wet due to Mango Showers in the town. I cleverly turned the fall into an opportunity and pulled off a snake dance while lying on the floor. Savitri garu was impressed and told me I will go a long way."
