Routine commercial cinema is NOT dead, feel Chiranjeevi and Nani

The mega disasters called 'Double Ismart' and 'Mr. Bachchan' are wake-up calls. But what lessons do they hold for the Telugu film industry? Certainly not the run-of-the-mill assumption that commercial cinema's currency has considerably weakened.

In a pre-release interview of 'Waltair Veerayya', Megastar Chiranjeevi made an interesting remark. He described 'Waltair Veerayya' as a routine commercial film. Usually, no actor describes his film as "routine". But Chiru did. He went on to add, "While being routine, our film holds elements that will strike the right chord with the audience."

Incidentally, Natural Star Nani, too, shares a similar opinion. "Be it a commercial or a non-commercial movie, if the heart is in the right place, it will always work. We have so many examples in today's times when formulaic films that rely on 20-year-old elements have become blockbusters. The audience should find a movie engaging. That's all that matters. A movie can be old wine in a new bottle. A film's moments must work," Nani said.

Routine commercial cinema is not going anywhere!
