'Emergency' (Hindi), starring Bollywood heroine Kangana Ranaut as former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, will be released in theatres on September 6.
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is said to be mooting a ban on the film. Legal consultations are on.
The film is deemed to have an anti-Congress narrative. Kangana is a BJP MP. Now, this is not the reason Revanth Reddy is considering a ban. The Telangana Sikh Society recently urged an adviser to the Telangana government to ban 'Emergency' on the grounds that it "hurts" the sentiments of Sikhs by "misrepresenting" them.
'Emergency' could be banned in Punjab as well. The Shiromani Akali Dal has spoken out against the movie. Kangana Ranaut and the team of the period political drama must now explore legal options. Even though the BJP is a ruling party at the Centre, law and order is a state subject as per the Constitution. The Centre can't do anything if states impose a ban.
