The makers of 'Guntur Kaaram' have reportedly filed a Cyber complaint against an allegedly orchestrated campaign targeting their movie through bots on BookMyShow. The makers alleged that over 70,000 bots rated the movie 0/10 in an attempt to create negative perceptions about the movie's content.
It is said that the Film Chamber of Commerce is seized of the issue. The film industry body, which takes care of the interests of producers belonging to the Telugu film industry, is expected to slap a notice on the ticket-booking platform.
It will be hard to prove the presence of an orchestrated online campaign for purely technical reasons. If it was so easy to fight a legal battle against platforms allegedly letting bots have a field day, political parties would be the first to move courts when fake opinion polls, etc. are floated with the intent to create false public perceptions.
'Guntur Kaaram' was released in theatres on January 12.
