A Malayalam film titled 'Bandra' was released in theatres in 2023. The action drama film, directed by Arun Gopy and produced by Vinayaka Ajith, starred Dileep in the lead. Soon after the movie's release, a few YouTube channels put out negative reviews against it. The producer moved a local court against the film, saying that the YouTubers were causing damage to his film. The reviews, put together, garnered 2.7 million views, he said.
The news is that the Thiruvananthapuram District First Class Magistrate Court has now ordered a probe against the YouTube vloggers. Aswanth Kok, Unni Vlogs, Arjun, Shan Mohammed, Hijaz Talks, and Sai Krishna will now be probed by the police.
The vloggers have been accused of posting deliberately negative reviews just 30 minutes of its theatrical release.
The probe order sets a wrong precedent. YouTubers and film critics might be hounded in the future arbitrarily.
