'Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar' is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Starring Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh, and Sharmin Segal, the web series started streaming on Netflix yesterday. How are critics seeing the high-profile web original? Here we tell you in this section.

Film Companion complained that the show takes more than five episodes to settle upon its focus. As such, it is "difficult to summarise its central plot". "The show is a mediocre example of his storytelling," the critic at FC added.

NDTV's review was positive. It said that Bhansali's "extravagant eight-episode Netflix show economizes on nothing at all. It is filmed all the way like the widescreen spectacle that it is intended to be."

The Hindu described 'Heeramandi' as a dazzling soap opera. "There is a lot of poetry in Heermandi. As always — and certainly encouraged by the setting and time period, pre-Independence India — Bhansali telegraphs his adulation for the Sufi and Urdu greats," the review added. In its 4-star review, India Today opined that the "gambit pays off".
