Ram Charan's 'No Numbers' Promise Shattered by Game Changer Controversy

In 2018, Rangasthalam became a massive hit, grossing more than Rs 200 Cr. At that time, speaking at an event, Ram Charan stated that he doesn't encourage putting out numbers. He urged his producers to desist from releasing posters talking about box office figures. “I personally want to take a stand. I request all my producers to never again put any numbers on my posters in the future,” he said. The actor added numbers would unnecessarily create controversies.

Ram Charan's statement, at that time, became a talking point. His fans took pride in his stance. His next film, Vinaya Vidheya Rama, flopped badly. So, there was no point in talking about its numbers and the makers didn't after the first weekend. RRR was not a solo-hero movie. As such, Charan didn't have much say in how it was marketed.

Game Changer is the real test. The movie reportedly made about Rs 85 Cr on Day 1 (worldwide gross). But the makers have claimed that the collections touched the Rs 186 Cr mark. There are also allegations of corporate bookings in the Hindi belt, something SRK's Jawan and Pathaan faced in 2023.

Ram Charan's principled promise in 2018 now stands in tatters. Not only are numbers being talked about, but fake numbers are being highlighted.
