'Aranmanai 4', the horror-comedy, was released in Tamil this Friday. Its Telugu-dubbed version was released in theatres as 'BAAK'. The Sundar C directorial has received a host of negative reviews. Tamannaah Bhatia and Raashi Khanna star in primary roles in the movie.

The News Minute gave it a 1.5-star rating, with its critic opining that the 'Aranmanai' franchise is better retired. "The plot is overridden with cliches — a medley of characters thrown together at a palace due to unforeseen circumstances, a ghost wreaking havoc, and multiple attempts to drive the evil spirit away. The characters are poorly developed," the critic there wrote.

Film Companion opined that the film is full of terrifying cliches. "The film whips out quite literally every small cliche in the horror handbook. Horror comedy is a genre unto itself. But this film simply presents the primary elements of this genre, without traces of any effort to meld the two," the reviewer added.

India Today said that negatives overpower positives in the film. The Hindu wrote, "Despite its tryst with the supernatural that ends with divine intervention, the Aranmanai films are like the villains of Scooby Doo."
