'Committee Kurrollu', one of the latest Telugu theatrical releases, is directed by Yadhu Vamsi. Niharika Konidela has bankrolled the project.
The film was expected to present a perspective on the reservation system. Its Trailer showed a General Category student losing his faith in the system because of his failure to secure a University campus seat despite securing a much better EAMCET rank than a reserved category friend.
In the film, though, the issue is not explored well. The film doesn't take any firm stance, either pro- or anti- reservation. The quota debate is complex, polarizing and sensitive in nature. It is sensitive precisely because people are closed-minded. A clash ensues over caste identities in 'Committee Kurrollu'. This stretch is abandoned after the interval.
Did 'Committee Kurrollu' not take a stance on the quota system fearing political and social controversies? Did the entry of Niharika Konidela as a producer force the filmmaker to be become politically impotent? The film shifts its focus to the issue of the power of money in electioneering. Did the director have to do it because, unlike the quota system, political corruption is not a polarizing issue?
