The makers of 'Pushpa 2: The Rule' have been criticized for charging exorbitant rates. The premiere show ticket on December 4th costs something like Rs 1,000. If you are watching the movie in the first weekend, you will be spending about Rs 500 or even more. Recently, producer S Naga Vamsi defended charging Rs 500 per ticket even for films like 'Tillu Square'.
In a way, the noise on social media has to be blamed for driving up the confidence of film producers. Telugu cinema buffs on social media platforms are so crazy about certain movies that they proudly flaunt their juvenile excitement for even basic posters. They behave as though their lives depend on watching event films on Day One.
In the latest instance, the Telugu yuvatha are raving about Megastar Chiranjeevi's movie with director Srikanth Odela. Who is Odela? 90% of the movie-watching community wouldn't even have heard about him. He is just one film old. Nani's 'Dasara', his only film till date, was just about average. What is the point in fawning over his film with Chiranjeevi? Just because Odela has promised to make an ultra-violent film with Chiranjeevi, does it necessarily mean he has a novel story? If the makers of the Chiru-Odela movie charge Rs 500 per ticket, a lot of the blame should go to these cine buffs going gaga over the movie on X, Facebook and Instagram.
When your loyalty is so easily available that the movie of a one-film-old director makes you go bonkers, you deserve exorbitant ticket rates. You are asking for it. If you want to be treated well, don't behave as though Odela is a Lokesh Kanagaraj.
