'MUFASA: The Lion King' was released in theatres last Friday. India has been ranked the film's 7th highest-grossing market. "The star power of Shah Rukh Khan and Mahesh Babu, who respectively dubbed for Mufasa in Hindi and Telugu, has greatly benefited the local versions of Mufasa in the Indian market," opined a trade analyst.
As per reports, the film approximately earned Rs 41.25 crore in its opening weekend. It added another Rs 5 crore or thereabouts on Monday.
The American musical drama film directed by Barry Jenkins from a screenplay written by Jeff Nathanson, crushed the new Telugu release, 'Bachhala Malli'. The Telugu-dubbed Kollywood film 'Vidudala Part 2', too, received a blow. Upendra's 'UI', dubbed from Kannada, also underperformed. The only film that has been least affected by 'Mufasa' is 'Pushpa 2: The Rule'.
'Mufasa: The Lion King' received mixed reviews from the Indian audience. The initial craze has slowly dissipated.
