The happening banner People Media Factory is producing a period drama titled 'Maa Kaali'. To be released in Telugu, Bengali, and Hindi, its Teaser is out.
Based on the infamous Direct Action Day, the dramatized telling of history is led by Raima Sen and Abhishek Singh. Writer-director Vijay Yelakanti has resorted to melodrama, a bland depiction of riots, and an in-your-face and loud tone if the Teaser is anything to go by.
The recent Telugu film 'Razakar', which told the story of the Razakars' anti-Hindu carnage orchestrated during the Nizam era, had similar demerits. It was too loud for its own good and couldn't make the cut at the box office either. Despite its Hindi-language release during the election season, it failed to attract even the Central Indian and northern audience.
One hopes 'Maa Kaali' hasn't committed the kind of drawbacks 'Razakar' is guilty of. 'Maa Kaali' is produced by TG Vishwa Prasad, who is politically affiliated to the Jana Sena and the BJP.
