'Tillu Square' producer opens up about so-called 'paid reviews'

Are there paid reviews in Tollywood media? If yes, how widespread is it? If no, what explains the honest journalism? These are questions film producers and directors rarely venture into.

In his latest interview, producer S Naga Vamsi was asked about the alleged prevalence of paid reviews and questionable PR strategies in Tollywood media. Addressing certain doubts, the maker of films like 'DJ Tillu', 'SIR', 'MAD' and the soon-to-be-released 'Tillu Square' said that if reviews could be bought, everyone would do that every Friday. "We wouldn't have to request film critics to withhold reviews for the first weekend," he added.

The producer expressed shock that many bad films have excellent ratings on BookMyShow, while good films are down-rated heavily on the ticket-booking platform. "I am not sure if there are machinations behind this trend, though. But it is startling nevertheless," Naga Vamsi indicated.
