It is frustrating when filmmakers with meagre resources make superhuman/sci-fi films. In Telugu, in recent times, 'SPARK' and 'Indrani' have become a laughing stock. When the Telugu film industry is ahead, can Tamil cinema be behind in annoying the audience. So, here it is. 'Weapon' has been made as the "first-ever superhuman saga in Indian cinema". Its trailer was released on Thursday.
As per the makers, the film tells the story of a superhuman who is chased by a bounty-hunter, played by an actor with deadpan expressions. Sathyaraj plays the superhuman and not a single shot involving him manages to excite the viewer. And you have an actor like Vasanth Ravi playing the hero.
The trailer suggests that the fight against the monster-like behemoth is not just a game but a war. When you are using bombastic words like 'war', the least you are expected to ensure is that the action scenes have a scale. Not a single frame in the trailer has a semblance of a big canvas. A handful of characters are seen discussing among themselves all the time, holding guns and walking cautiously in semi-dark spaces.
Tamil cinema is gradually becoming a joke, with most of the Telugu-dubbed Tamil films bombing at the box-office since the pandemic. 'Weapon' is the next big joke that is coming up. Advance condolences to the audience!
