Rajamouli's Epic Shifts Gears, Mahesh Babu's Film Reimagined

Interesting rumours have surfaced online about the genre and backdrop of Mahesh Babu's movie directed by SS Rajamouli. About two years ago, writer Vijayendra Prasad stated that the film's backdrop is an African jungle. He likened the story to the Indiana Jones genre.

As per the latest buzz in the town, Prasad and Rajamouli have changed the backdrop to Varanasi. The story won't take place in a jungle prominently. When African jungles were the backdrop, a section of the media called the movie a pan-world action adventure.

Last year, reports said that Mahesh Babu's character will have Hanuman-like traits. This rumour has taken a backseat lately. If an imagined version of Varanasi is the backdrop and a particular dimension of Indian mythology is in store, perhaps, the Hanuman angle is not going to be seen.

Genre wise, the film no longer comes across as a jungle adventure but an action adventure story with mythological underpinnings.

Mahesh Babu and Rajamouli haven't uttered a word about the project in the last one year or so. The story of the film was in the development stage from 2020 to 2024.
