The gender wage gap is an open secret in film industry that has found many deniers. The one reason given for discrepancy is box-office. Box-office figures are thrown at actresses as justification, causing many young actresses to back down. In the last few years, several Bollywood actresses have spoken up about pay inequality. The latest celebrity to voice her opinion on the same is Pooja Hegde.
‘Veere Di Wedding’, which features all women caste, and ‘Raazi’, which featured Alia Bhatt in the lead, went on to become blockbusters. In the recent times female-centric films like ‘Bhaagamatie’ and ‘Mahanati’ have turned out to be super hits without the backing of big star heroes. Pooja feels that there is no point in continuing the pay disparity.
Calling out people who cite the ability of men to fetch more throngs as a reason to pay them more money, Pooja Hegde tweeted, "Wait, female driven films are getting critical acclaim AND making MONEY??!Well,girls...I hope u’ll start making as much money as the boys are making đconsiderin u’ll are now pulling in d crowd as wellđWhat’s their excuse now? @aliaa08 @sonamakapoor #paygap #Raazi #veerediwedding."
Pooja Hegde, who earned great craze as a glam doll in Duvvada Jagannadam, awaits the release of her Telugu film ‘Saakshyam’, in which she is paired opposite Bellamkonda Sai Srinivas.
