The pre-release event for Karthik Subbaraj's upcoming film Retro buzzed with excitement as lead actor Suriya shared his insights into the movie, describing it as a unique cinematic experience entirely crafted by the director. The event also saw a heartwarming exchange of admiration between Suriya and special guest Vijay Deverakonda, who reminisced about being a fan and lauded Suriya's diverse filmography and impactful social work through his Agaram Foundation.
The film, which co-stars Joju George, Jayaram, Pooja Hegde, and Prakash Raj, releases in theatres on May 1st.
Suriya said that Retro is an out-and-out Karthik Subbaraj movie. "It is his 'padam'. His films are a separate genre altogether. I have got to work with the likes of Prakash Raj after a long time. Pooja Hegde has put in a lot of sincere effort. She has promoted this movie a little more than I have. Love, laughter, and war are what Retro is going to be. Hopefully, we will satisfy the viewers this time," the Kanguva actor said. He said that bouncing back is what matters the most. "I have always believed that God's plan prevails. I am elated to get this kind of love and trust from the Telugu audience through ups and downs," Suriya remarked.
Suriya described presenter S Naga Vamsi as a lucky charm, as others told him. Retro is being released in the Telugu States by Sithara Entertainments. The NGK actor wished HIT 3 all the best. Suriya then acknowledged the presence of Vijay Deverakonda, describing the Kingdom actor as a dear one.
Vijay Deverakonda said that he would be watching Retro on May 1st. He recalled his experience of watching Ghajini in his college days. "I fell in love with Suriya anna when I watched that movie. I grew up admiring his performances in movies like Khakha Khakha. Sharing the dais with Suriya anna today is a special moment. He has had the balls and courage to pick a variety of genres. What he has been doing through Agaram Foundation is great. He has educated thousands of students and made them job-holders. Education is a thing that can make a huge difference. If I am able to tackle the highs and lows in my life, it's because of the education I received. Education teaches you how to develop your memory, how to process knowledge, etc," VD said.
Lucky Baskhar director Venky Atluri said that he was an Engineering student when Ghajini was released. "I watched it at a time when I was planning to enter the film industry. I was wowed by Suriya sir's performance in it. Surya Son Of Krishnan was like a textbook. It gave valuable lessons. We all have learned something or the other from his movies. His Singham movies were enjoyable. Karthik Subbaraj's making values are admirable. The trailer of Retro is whacky," Atluri said.
S Naga Vamsi said that it has been a long time since the audience have seen Suriya in a role like this one. He confirmed that he will be producing Suriya's movie under the direction of Venky Atluri.
Kaarthekeyen Santhanam is one of the producers of Retro. 2D Entertainments' Suriya and Jyothika have bankrolled the movie.
