India has got 7,500 theatres across the length and breadth of the country. However, accounting for the 1.35 billion-strong population, we need at least 40,000 more theatres, Balwanth Singh of Net5 OTT has said.
"There are something like 1,500 theatres in the Telugu States. But if we want to make films for all the Telugu audience, we would need a thousand more theatres. Nobody is focusing on this aspect," he added.
Singh said that India needs to add a vast number of theatres on the lines of China. "After the surge of OTT in India, many are writing off theatres. Such kind of thinking is normal whenever something new crops up. Theatres have survived, star TV and more," he added. He added that it is essential for films to first release in theatres before being streamed on OTT.
Net5 is soon going to release 'Legacy Of Lies' in major Indian languages, including Telugu.
