On Friday, millions of movie buffs went through tense moments after fake news emerged that the star actor Vikram had a cardiac arrest (or heart attack, as some reports put it). The truth turned out to be something else. A couple of hours after the baseless reports, Chennai's Kauvery Hospital stated that Vikram had only felt mild chest discomfort and nothing more.
Vikram's son Dhruv Vikram took to Instagram and said that the 'heart attack' rumours pained the family. His message was clear that sections of the media were irresponsible in reporting the hospitalization news, causing the actor's family unnecessary distress.
This is reminiscent of how the electronic media behaved when Sai Dharam Tej met with a road accident in September, 2021. Early reports exaggerated the news about the accident, making false claims with complete confidence. The reports caused anxiety in public for no reason.
Every time something happens to a celeb, the earliest media reports are driven by TRP hunger. The actual truth emerges only a couple of hours later.
