Since his comeback in 2016, Chiranjeevi has done three remakes. Out of three original films, one is a disaster (we are talking about 'Acharya'). 'Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy' worked mainly because of its genre and the element of patriotism. It was not a pathbreaking film by any reckoning.
After the release of 'Khaidi No. 150', senior producer Ashwini Dutt wanted to do a film with the Megastar. It was to be directed by directors Raj and DK. The script on the table was 'The Family Man'. Chiru rejected the offer, much to the shock of the directors and Dutt.
Dutt has revealed that Raj and DK were ready to set aside the characters of kids. Even then, Chiru was not inclined to like the script.
Had 'The Family Man' been made with Chiru as the hero, it might have become a defining film. Raj and DK are mainstream filmmakers with a smart understanding of filmmaking. Since they are Telugu, they grew up watching Chiru's films. Even if their film with Chiru had not worked, it would still have been better than 'Acharya' and 'Bholaa Shankar' (and even 'Godfather', which too flopped at the box office).
