Silent Release: Low-key arrival of Ajith's Pattudala shocks

Ajith's Pattudala is hitting the cinemas this week. Dubbed from Tamil, the film is an action thriller co-starring Arjun Sarja, Regina Cassandra, and Trisha Krishnan.

Film observers are surprised that Lyca Productions isn't promoting the movie in Telugu. On BookMyShow, the Pattudala listing doesn't come with Ajith's face on the poster. There hasn't been a promotional event in Hyderabad so far. Recently, even Madha Gaja Raja and Premistava, both dubbed from Tamil, held promotional events. The director of the latter gave multiple interviews as well. Anjali and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar were in Hyderabad to promote their movie.

Pattudala is one of those big-ticket Telugu-dubbed Tamil movies that is coming out after a series of flops from Kollywood. Vijay's The Greatest of All Time was a flop. Suriya's Kanguva didn't register footfalls. Kamal Haasan's Indian 2 was a disaster. Most Telugu-dubbed Tamil films have been rejected badly in Telugu, Sivakarthikeyan-Sai Pallavi's Amaran and Sathyam Sundaram being two of the few exceptions.

Lyca Productions was supposed to release Pattudala for Sankranthi. Had it not been postponed, Sankranthiki Vasthunam and Daaku Maharaaj would have crushed it to death in a few hours.
