The fuss around the first song of 'Waltair Veerayya' has been unending. Many Netizens are expressing their displeasure over Devi Sri Prasad following a beaten path in composing the song, which doesn't sound refreshing. It might be enjoyable on the big screen but, for now, there is no wow factor in it.
The non-stop trolling goes to show that the Telugu audience are the only ones in India still expecting big-star hero movie songs to be top-notch.
In Tamil, the likes of D Imman, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Harris Jayaraj and even AR Rahman and Anirudh are mostly average. Their songs for top-billed movies have been routine or underwhelming for years now. Not a single song from 'Ponniyin Selvan' would have satisfied the Telugu audience had it been a straight Telugu movie. Anirudh comes up with one superb tune for a Vijay or a Rajinikanth film; the rest of the album is not of great standards. Yet, the Tamil audience celebrate his albums. Yet, they don't troll Rahman. Yet, they don't troll D Imman, whose tunes are simply unbearable sometimes.
Bollywood's film music is even worse. Big-star movies don't have impressive songs there. Their music directors, in fact, have spoiled even a pan-India movie like 'Radhe Shyam'.
It's good that the Telugu audience are keeping up the pressure. Our expectations are always high. That way, composers like DSP and Thaman have so much of headaches every time.
