Ahead of the theatrical release of 'Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi' on March 17, its soulful song 'Kanula Chatu Meghama' was released today. Sung by Aabhas Joshi, it has been described by music director Kalyani Malik as his career-best song.

With lyrics penned by Lakshmi Bhupal (dialogue writer of films like 'GodFather'), the song draws from the profound beats of the ghazal genre in portraying the pain of a breakup. The rendition and the slow pace are meant to evoke pathos.

Shot on Naga Shaurya and Malvika Nair (of 'Yevade Subrahmanyam' fame) as an elaborate set of montages, the song brings out the vicissitudes of their transient relationship. "The male singer's vocal range is effortless," the makers said.

Director Srinivas Avasarala, who executed a slow-burn romance with Naga Shaurya in the past in the form of 'Oohalu Gusagusalade', makes 'Kanula Chatu Meghama' an additive number in company with Malik. The composer is on record stating that he has experienced the maximum satisfaction because of the song. Madan Mohan’s 'Lag Ja Gale' was the reference point that the director gave him.

Although the composer initially had self-doubts, he whipped up his creativity in dishing out the immersive song. The music director is so much in awe of the wonderful output given by the singer-lyricist duo that he is expecting they will secure a National Award. The singer was spotted on Instagram.

In the past, Kalyani Malik's 'Em Sandeham Ledu' from 'Oohalu Gusagusalade' and 'Oka Lalana' from 'Jyo Achyutananda' were critically acclaimed. Lyricist Lakshmi Bhupal likens the combination of the director and music director to that of yesteryear maker Vamsee and the legendary Maestro Ilaiyaraaja in terms of impact and musical quality.

Produced by TG Vishwa Prasad and Padmaja Dasari, the film also features Megha Chowdhury, Ashok Kumar, Abhishek Maharshi, Srividhya, Varanasi Soumya Chalamcharla, Harini Rao, and Arjun Prasad.
