'Vyooham' was released in theatres today. Ram Gopal Varma's film has received positive reviews only from the Sakshi media group. Otherwise, even a section of the media that is not antithetical to the ruling YSRCP has bashed the political drama for being so boring and low-effort.
The greatest minus with the pre-election propaganda outing is that it has been released after 'Yatra 2'. Not that 'Yatra 2' was a hit (it was a disaster), but the Tollywood media watched it upon its release in February. The same media watching 'Vyooham' today realized that there is no surprise anywhere. The events portrayed in 'Vyooham' and the motives of the characters follow the 'Yatra 2' template. It is as if directors RGV and Mahi V Raghav are part of the same YSRCP WhatsApp group vetted by Kodali Nani and Roja, the luminaries.
'Yatra 2' showed some class to an extent. With RGV, you can expect only municipality-level political thinking.
The use of songs in 'Vyooham' is utterly annoying. The songs are too many and the conversations between Madhan (Jagan Mohan Reddy's alt name in the film) and others are frustratingly overlong.
'Yatra 2' had music by Santhosh Narayanan, a talented composer. RGV being RGV, he RGV-fies the songs in 'Vyooham'. In one of the stretches, it feels like you are watching a song in a horror movie.
