Uday Kiran chased a mirage and caused his own downfall

Uday Kiran's downfall began somewhere around the mid-2000s. After scoring three blockbusters in a row (Chitram, Nuvvu Nenu and Manasantha Nuvve) and a hit (Shriraam), he should have been the most sought-after hero for a decade. Many blame his failed engagement with Chiranjeevi's daughter as the game-changing factor that ruined his career. But some decisions Uday Kiran made might have precipitated his downfall.

Uday Kiran chased a mass hero image. That's why he showed interest in doing action films at a point of time. "I told Uday Kiran that I would like to do Manasantha Nuvve 2 with him. I even offered an advance pay. But he preferred Shriraam 2. He wanted to become a mass hero. He was desperate. There was a wide chasm between expectations and reality. He should have done films that the family audience expected from him while occasionally trying out mass films," director VN Aditya said in an interview.

After Attarintiki Daredi was released in 2013, Uday Kiran told VN Aditya that the era of family films was back and that they should reunite for a family film. But it was too late by then.
