In a groundbreaking move that has sent ripples through the success-starved Hindi film industry, Amazon MGM Studios and Excel Entertainment have firmed up a cinematic adaptation of the immensely popular web series Mirzapur, streaming on Amazon Prime Video. The film, titled 'Mirzapur: The Film', is slated for a theatrical release in 2026. It will feature Pankaj Tripathi as Kaleen Bhaiya, Ali Fazal as Guddu Pandit, and Divyenndu Sharma as the cunning Munna Tripathi. Abhishek Banerjee will also reprise his role as the loyal Compounder.
Created by Puneet Krishna and directed by Gurmeet Singh, 'Mirzapur: The Film' is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar, with Kassim Jagmagia and Vishal Ramchandani serving as co-producers.
Bollywood trade analysts expect 'Mirzapur' to be one of the biggest hits ever. Since the web series is a brand in itself (although the third season received negative reviews), the film is expected to take gigantic openings regardless of the public talk. Like 'Stree 2' this year, 'Mirzapur: The Film' could become a massive money-spinner two years from now.
